PES file not showing on your Brother machine

Start by checking whether the design opens as an embroidery file and whether its measured size fits your machine's sewing area. A file that previews on a computer can still exceed a machine's limits.

1. Confirm that you have a stitch file

Extract a downloaded ZIP first, then choose its actual .pes file. A PNG preview, PDF colour sheet or ZIP archive is not the embroidery design. Open the file with the free PES viewer and inspect its stitch count, dimensions and colour sequence. The sample PES design can help you check whether the viewer itself is loading normally.

If your file fails while the sample opens, ask for a fresh copy. A damaged download or unsupported file variant can prevent decoding. Changing the extension of an image or another design format does not create a valid PES file.

2. Compare dimensions with the machine's sewing area

Use the design width and height reported by the viewer, rather than the name of the download. For example, an illustrative 110 × 90 mm design exceeds a 100 × 100 mm sewing area on one axis. Rotating it still leaves a 110 mm axis. Changing the viewer's hoop selection only changes the displayed outline; it does not shrink the design.

Your machine's nominal hoop label and usable embroidery area may differ. Consult the manual for the exact model, and check stitch and colour limits as well as design size. If necessary, have the designer regenerate a suitable size.

3. Check how your model accepts designs

Use the USB device, folder arrangement and transfer method specified by your machine's manual. Some models have different requirements. Do not reformat a USB drive containing important files just to test a design; use a spare compatible drive or copy the files elsewhere first.

Keep the original file and try a short, simple copy name if your model restricts file names. A file appearing in the viewer confirms that stitch data can be decoded here; it does not certify USB compatibility.

4. Send useful details to the designer

Keep this process separate from sewing quality checks. Once the design loads, use the pre-sewing checklist and sew a sample on matching fabric.

Frequently asked questions

Why does PES open in a viewer but not on my machine?

The machine may have stricter limits for design size, stitch count, file version or transfer method. Check the exact model's manual.

Will selecting a smaller hoop resize my PES file?

No. The hoop outline is a fit reference; the stitch coordinates remain unchanged.
